Fuel your movement recipe of the month: Green smoothie

The energy we get from food can help support active lifestyles. A well-balanced diet provides us with essential nutrients that nourish our bodies and fuel our movement throughout the whole day. Award-winning registered dietitian Sue Mah is back and teaming up with ParticipACTION on monthly fueling and budget-friendly recipes, like this green smoothie.

With St. Patrick’s Day around the corner, you may be dreaming about shamrocks, Celtic tunes and green pints. So, we thought we’d bring our own green pint to the table. This fresh and fueling green smoothie will have you leaping like a leprechaun. Cheers!

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup milk or fortified plant-based beverage
  • ¼ cup plain or vanilla-flavoured Greek or plant-based yogurt
  • 1½ cups fresh baby spinach
  • ¾ cup frozen pineapple
  • ½ frozen banana
  • 1-2 tsp honey (optional)

Instructions for making the green smoothie:

  1. Put all of the ingredients except for the honey in a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Add the honey and blend to adjust the sweetness of your smoothie (optional).
  4. Enjoy immediately!

Makes one serving.
