A Challenge for Us All

The ParticipACTION 150 Play List was created by over 465,000 votes from people across Canada. Including 150 physical activities that make us uniquely Canadian, the Play List challenged Canadians in communities, schools, workplaces, and even abroad to see how many different activities they could complete in 2017. Over 100 official Tour Stops and 1,600 community events took place across the country as partners joined together to inspire Canadians to sit less and move more.

A Year Older, A Year Stronger

Canadians checked off over 2 million physical activities throughout 2017! We asked, and 62 per cent of Play List participants said they participated in the program to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, 58 per cent said it got them off the couch more and 50 per cent said they are more physically active because of it. More inspiring, 91 per cent said they intend to maintain this level of physical activity after the program is over. Happy birthday, Canada!

Moving More is so Rewarding

At ParticipACTION, we believe that being active is its own reward, but we thought a few prizes might give Canadians that extra bit of motivation we all sometimes need to get up and get moving.

Thanks to the generosity of our partners, we gave away fun prizes each week like wearable activity trackers, exciting monthly prizes like an all-expenses paid trip to Whistler, B.C., the chance to appear in a primetime television series, and a trip to the Grey Cup in Ottawa. Our grand prize draw awarded a brand new Chevrolet vehicle worth up to $40,000!

Behind the Movement

From tobogganing and snowshoeing to fishing and hiking, movement has always been integral to everyday life in Canada.

The 150 Play List celebrates that history while inspiring Canadians to make it a bigger part of our future. Being active is essential and accessible to all of us, in every part of the country regardless of who we are, or who we identify with. By encouraging Canadians to try as many activities as possible and find the ones they love, ParticipACTION hopes to remind people that activity isn’t just good for our physical and emotional health, it’s a part of who we are as Canadians. The top five activities tracked nationally were: Walking, Housework, Fitness Activities, Dog Walking and Gardening. In typical Canadian fashion, however, participants were checking off activity #132 Snow Shoveling in September.

Who Was Involved?

The ParticipACTION 150 Play List was a collaborative effort supported by the Government of Canada, premier corporate partners Manulife, Chevrolet, and Shaw, the Government of B.C., the Government of Newfoundland & Labrador, and national media partner Corus.

Yet, the most important contributor was Canadians like YOU, who helped us celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday in the best way we knew how – with movement!

So, get moving, remember what it means to be Canadian, and keep the celebration going. That’s what the 150 Play List is all about. Still have questions? Check out the 150 Play List FAQ.
