who we are

ParticipACTION is a Canadian non-profit charitable organization and an enduring part of Canada’s physical activity history, encouraging people to get healthy by getting active since 1971. Through our award-winning public education campaigns, best-in-class thought leadership and innovative engagement initiatives, we’re working to build a more resilient and accessible culture of movement by removing barriers and creating opportunities for everyone living in Canada to make room to move in their daily lives!

What we do

As Canada’s premier physical activity brand, ParticipACTION works with its partners, which include organizations within the sport, physical activity and recreation sector, alongside government and corporate sponsors, to help people living in Canada be less sedentary and more physically active by:

  • Inspiring and supporting people to make physical activity a vital part of their everyday lives;
  • Reducing personal, societal and systemic barriers to physical activity so that people can make room to move in their daily lives;
  • Identifying and providing opportunities for movement where people live, learn, work and play through innovative engagement initiatives and thought leadership;
  • Championing the need for Canada to make physical activity a national priority through collaborative advocacy efforts that aim to drive policy changes and promote a more active and healthier society. Learn more about how we are working to create lasting impact at www.ChangethePace.ca.

territorial acknowledgement

ParticipACTION’s head office sits on the traditional lands and waterways of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples. This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Covenant and Treaty 13. It is also home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples from across Turtle Island.

reconciliation action statement

ParticipACTION acknowledges that colonialism has harmed Indigenous communities across Canada and that our industry has had adverse impacts on Indigenous health through the banning of traditional forms of physical activity and using physical activity as an assimilation tool.

ParticipACTION commits to supporting Indigenous communities through measuring and reporting on Indigenous physical activity, supporting Indigenous-led organizations, and sharing Indigenous stories and imagery that honour First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities. We will work to advance the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and continue being open to suggestions from and consultations with Indigenous Peoples on how we can build better relations and continue working towards reconciliation.

accessibility

ParticipACTION is committed to providing an online environment that is accessible to everyone, including individuals with disabilities.

We are striving to maintain level AA accessibility standards across our website. If you cannot access content or use features on any ParticipACTION webpage due to a disability, please contact us.
